On behalf of the Boards of the Eastern Nursing Research Society, the Southern Nursing Research Society, the Midwest Nursing Research Society, and the Western Institute of Nursing, we appreciate the protection offered to front line healthcare providers through the Category 1A priority for COVID vaccinations. We value following the science that identified this priority. However, we are concerned that in many locations, our next generation of nurses – our nursing students, many of whom are in a high-transmission age group and all of whom provide direct patient care as they learn – are not included in early rounds of COVID vaccinations. To protect our future front line nurses, we ask that nursing students be included in Category IA priority for COVID vaccinations.
