Career Planning for Doctorate-Prepared Nurses


The luncheon featured a panel of DNP and PhD-prepared nurses who will share personal insights and career planning strategies including the benefits of MNRS/ESN membership and specific issues for nursing doctorate students to consider while planning career trajectory from doctorate student to doctorate-prepared nurse.
What is the Emerging Scholars Network?
The Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) is an all-encompassing term for all MNRS members who are designated as student, post graduate, or new faculty (with 3 years or less of experience).
Can I Attend the ESN Lunch & Learn?
The ESN Lunch & Learn is open to all conference attendees interested in early-career professional advice from MNRS/ESN members.

Christine Corbett, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CNN-NP, FNKF
Dr. Corbett is a Family Nurse Practitioner practicing in Nephrology. She completed her DNP in 2018 and is the Corporate Director of Advanced Practice Providers Nephrology Nurse Practitioner. Truman Medical Centers Kansas City, MO.
Melvina “Mel” Brandau PhD, MS, RN
Dr. Brandau is Assistant Professor School of Nursing Ohio University. Dr. Brandau completed her PhD at the University of North Dakota in 2016. Her dissertation, “Adolescent victims’ experiences with cyberbullying: A grounded theory study” was the most downloaded dissertation from ProQuest for the month August 2018.
Randy Huard, DNP, RN, PHN
Dr. Huard is an Assistant Professor St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud MN. Dr. Huard’s DNP project focused on interventions by public health nurses to combat childhood obesity in rural communities. He currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses at St. Cloud State University and has begun his application for tenure. He is also a 2nd year PhD student at the University of North Dakota. His research question is “How does social isolation influence quality-of-life of adult-child caregivers of a parent with Alzheimer’s disease?”
Karen O. Moss, PhD, RN, CNL
Karen O. Moss, PhD, RN, CNL is Assistant Professor, College of Nursing Center of Excellence in Critical and Complex Care at The Ohio State University. Dr. Moss was previous Jonas Scholar and completed her Post-doc at CWRU. Dr. Karen Moss’ program of research focuses on improving end-of-life care and decision-making outcomes for patients with serious chronic illness and their families.
